Slovenia’s Financial Administration has updated its guidance for online shopping from non-EU countries after the July 2026 customs change. For low-value consignments up to €150, a temporary €3 customs duty is generally charged per item or product type, and VAT is calculated separately. FURS also notes that customs-representation costs can be added when a parcel is cleared.

This is especially relevant to the kind of small, mixed baskets that make AliExpress attractive. Several different low-cost products can create more import cost than one bundled product, even if both baskets have a similar merchandise value.

Count product types, not only the basket total

FURS gives a useful example: different products in one parcel can each attract the €3 charge, while identical goods may be classified together as one item. For Slovenian buyers, that makes multipacks and seller bundles worth comparing before placing several separate low-cost items in the basket.

Keep the import record together with the delivery record

VAT handling also depends on the import arrangement. When VAT is collected through IOSS at purchase, the later customs process differs from a standard clearance where VAT and duty are collected on import. Keep the AliExpress invoice and payment record until delivery is complete.
