AliExpress is attractive in Latvia when the local selection is narrow or a small accessory costs much more from a domestic retailer. But the cheapest listing is not automatically the cheapest order once shipping, VAT and import charges are included.

Since 1 July 2026, the European Commission applies a temporary €3 customs duty per item to low-value consignments up to €150 imported from outside the EU. VAT remains a separate part of the calculation. For Latvian buyers who often combine several inexpensive products into one order, this makes basket structure worth checking before payment.

Bundle structure can matter more than basket value

A €3 per-item duty can change the economics of tiny accessories. If you need several similar pieces, compare a multi-pack with buying them separately. A seller offering one bundled product may produce a better total than a basket of many individually classified items, even when the headline prices look similar.

Use the international leg—not Latvia’s size—to judge delivery

Latvia’s small size does not guarantee fast delivery from Asia. The international route, customs processing and last-mile carrier matter more than domestic distance. Prefer tracked shipping when the item is valuable or time-sensitive, and check the estimated arrival date rather than only the dispatch promise.

Use a complete Latvian address, correct postal code and a phone number that can receive carrier messages. If a discount changes the calculation, check the current AliExpress promo codes before adding another item simply to reach a promotion threshold; the extra product can also increase the import cost.

For Latvia, a small basket deserves a product-by-product calculation. The strongest comparison is between bundle structure, import cost and the reliability of the international delivery route.
