Hungarian shoppers buying from AliExpress should now account for a new EU-wide cost on many low-value imports. Since July 2026, the European Commission says a temporary €3 customs duty per item applies to consignments up to €150 imported from outside the EU. VAT remains separate, so the displayed product price can be a poor guide to the final cost of a multi-item order.

This matters particularly when a basket contains several inexpensive accessories. A collection of small items can attract more duty than one higher-priced product because the temporary charge is applied per item under the new low-value regime.

Forint conversion deserves its own calculation

AliExpress may show converted prices, while your bank or card provider can apply its own exchange rate. Compare the final HUF amount you expect to pay rather than relying on the first converted price shown on a listing. The warehouse field matters before shipping speed

For a larger purchase, compare several sellers and the “ships from” location before focusing on the delivery estimate. A warehouse inside the EU can change the import path, while an overseas shipment may fall under the low-value import rules. The origin field is therefore more than a delivery-speed detail.

For low-cost products, standard tracked shipping is often more useful than an untracked option with a small saving. Check the estimated arrival window and follow the parcel after it reaches the Hungarian last-mile network. Accurate postcode, city and street information still matters, but it does not need to drive the buying decision unless the address itself is unusual.

For Hungary, the calculation starts in forints and ends with origin: compare the HUF charge you expect, the number of items, the warehouse location and the delivery method before judging whether a discount is real.
