Greek shoppers buying from outside the EU now need to include a customs charge that did not apply to the same low-value parcels earlier in 2026. From 1 July 2026, the EU's temporary low-value import regime introduced a flat €3 customs duty for qualifying e-commerce goods up to €150, while VAT remains a separate part of the transaction.
What changed for parcels up to €150
Greece's Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) implemented the new EU rule from 1 July 2026. The €3 duty applies to imported low-value B2C goods and is calculated by item category under the temporary regime. The change means that the old assumption that a parcel below €150 avoids customs duty is no longer current.
For buyers, the useful habit is to check the tax and duty information shown at checkout and keep the final invoice. If a postal or courier operator later requests payment, compare that request with what was already collected rather than assuming it is either automatically correct or automatically a duplicate.
IOSS can make VAT simpler, but not invisible
AADE's e-commerce guidance covers the Import One-Stop Shop, which can allow VAT on qualifying low-value distance sales to be collected at the point of sale. This can simplify import processing, but it does not remove the need to check the order summary. A marketplace checkout that clearly shows VAT is easier to reconcile with a later customs request.
Do not confuse an EU warehouse with a short estimate
A genuine EU-stock shipment can avoid the same third-country import path as goods sent directly from outside the EU. Check the selected product's actual ship-from location before paying. A fast estimated delivery date is not evidence by itself that the item is already inside the EU.
For a time-sensitive purchase, the warehouse route and tracking quality can matter more than a small discount. PoKupar's AliExpress tracking guide can help you follow the parcel when it changes carriers or enters local delivery.
Greek address details should be complete before checkout
Use the recipient name and delivery address in a form the final carrier can process, including postal code and a reachable phone number. If you need to add or correct an address, PoKupar's AliExpress address guide explains the standard account fields. Fix address problems before ordering rather than relying on seller messages after dispatch.
Plan sales around the delivered price
For non-urgent orders, major AliExpress promotions can still create worthwhile savings after the new duty is considered. PoKupar's AliExpress sales calendar can help with timing. Compare the final price after coupons, shipping, VAT and the applicable customs charge with the delivered price from an EU or Greek retailer.
A Greece-specific checkout routine
Confirm the exact variation, seller record, ship-from location, delivery method, checkout tax and final amount. If the goods are entering from outside the EU, allow for the 2026 low-value customs-duty change instead of using an older €150 exemption assumption. For high-value products, also compare warranty and return practicality.
AliExpress can remain good value in Greece, but the calculation changed in July 2026. A buyer who checks the full landed cost before paying is less likely to turn a cheap listing into an unexpectedly expensive parcel.
